CHARACTER INFO

Character: Saix
Canon: Kingdom Hearts, during Kingdom Hearts III - just before his final confrontation with Sora, Axel, and the others
Age: 20s (judging by appearance, no canon age)

Background Information: Wiki link.

The quick and dirty: Saix was once a boy named Isa who lost his heart and joined Organization XIII in an attempt to find a mysterious girl he'd met once, alongside his buddy Lea/Axel. Axel made other friends (Roxas and Xion), Saix didn't handle it well, Axel dipped and Saix kept working for the Organization in hopes he could get his heart back. Eventually he got his ass kicked, thanks to Sora. Isa, heart restored, was given another opportunity to join the Org and host a piece of Xehanort. He agreed, because he now had the capacity to regret his actions and knew this would give him an opportunity to work within the Organization to make up for what he'd done to Axel and Axel's friends before. As part of the Organization again, he recruited Even and Ienzo to secretly make bodies for Roxas and Namine. This is the point he's taken from - right before he heads out to fight the hero squad alongside Xemnas.

Personality:

First Impressions

On first meeting, Saix can be quickly assessed as reserved, cold, and analytical. He is not prone to sharing his thoughts easily, or to loud display of emotions - which is no surprise. Lacking a heart, Saix can no longer truly feel the sort of emotional attachment that most people can. He can only experience it through memory - knowing what he should be feeling in a particular moment. The actual experience is muted, distant.

Even when Saix had a heart - when he was Isa - his personality was aloof and intelligent, though warmer and with a real sense of humor. He teased Lea easily, while also being more than ready to get into trouble alongside him. Without a heart, there's not much left except that aloof coolness. He is intelligent, though, with a calculating mind and a talent for organization and management that easily won him the position of Xemnas' second-in-command. Xemnas, clearly more of an idea guy, seemed perfectly content to let Saix give the rest of the organization their daily orders and take care of management and minutia while he focused on the master plan.

But Saix has never truly been a rule-follower: even while running the Organization for Xemnas, he had his own plans bubbling below the surface. Though that all fell apart, along with his friendship with Axel, he's still the sort of person who will decide for himself what needs to be done, and go about making it happen, even if that means betrayal - or playing the long game.

Motivations and Goals

Saix, having briefly become Isa once more, is more in touch with emotion than he once was. He regrets his previous actions after his friendship with Axel fell apart - regrets the damage he caused in his desire to regain his heart, after he thought he had nothing else left. His main motivation now is to make up for what he's done.

His way of doing that is not straightforwardly heroic - instead, he chose to lose his heart, become a Nobody again, and rejoin the Organization. By doing this he put himself in a position to work against Xehanort from within by giving Roxas the ability to fight alongside the others - as well as more subtle maneuvers, like his attempts to awaken Xion's memories of Axel. He plays the game very carefully, never tipping off the Organization that he's acting against their goals, right up until the end. Obviously this was a risky choice on his part, but it seems that he was never suspected, which shows how adept he is at playing the villain role.

Though motivated now by a need to do good, Saix has no desire to be a hero. He isn't doing it for acclaim or even simple recognition - he's doing it because he has a lot to make up for.

Flaws and Regrets

As a Nobody, Saix knows emotions mainly through memory. He moved away from it when he was previously a Nobody, coming to the conclusion that there was no point in pretending to have emotions like many of the other Nobodies. He wanted a heart, wanted real emotions, and devoted himself to that goal when he believed he had lost everything else.

However, in that brief time he was Isa again, he could feel as strongly as anyone. He remembers it much more clearly now, and with that comes the regret over his actions against Sora, Roxas, Xion, and Axel himself. He is more careful now, more aware of how easily he can lose his way. He knows, too, that he is very flawed.

He's good at seeing people's weak points, which means he's good at deliberate cruelty. His coldness adds to it, and makes him difficult to connect with. He has a tendency towards jealousy - many of his actions a direct result of the jealousy he felt as he lost Axel's friendship and saw him cultivating a new one with Roxas. Though he now wants to do better, Saix knows he's good at playing the villain, and will lean into that if necessary - earning him enemies, especially since it can be very difficult to tell where the act ends.

How can a Nobody, who's supposed to lack the ability to feel emotion, feel jealousy strongly enough to make him lose his way? Saix's jealousy is not the only time we see Nobodies appear to have emotions of their own. In-game lore implies that they do have the ability to 'regrow' hearts and feel emotions. It seems that, unfortunately, Saix's first stab at that was a negative one.

Abilities & Inventory: Saix is a Nobody, which means his body is less about flesh and blood and more about willpower. This is fairly limited - he can take more damage than a human would be able to, and if he desperately needed to keep going he'd be able to, for awhile. When he dies, he'll disintegrate rather than leaving a corpse. Otherwise, he seems identical to a human.

He can use Dark Corridors, summoning a portal that allows him to move from place to place. Using them regularly will stain a person's heart with darkness, corrupting them. Great for Nobodies, who have no hearts, not so safe for any normal person.

He fights with a large claymore, which he can summon from nowhere.

As with the other Organization members, Saix has an elemental affinity. His is the Moon attribute, granting him the title 'Luna Diviner'. He can use this power to go into a state that makes him stronger, faster, and empowers his claymore to hit harder. Though it's called a Berserk state, and he looks visibly wilder, he doesn't appear to lose any control over his attacks or his mental state. Even outside of this state, he can use this moon power to create shockwaves and force fields.

He will be arriving with nothing on him but his Organization robe and his summonable claymore. Nobodies don't really have stuff.

ARMADA SELECTION

Paladin: Saix could fit reasonably well in either armada, but he likes a bit of order, imposing it himself if necessary but not opposed to working within someone else's system as well. The structure would help him find his sea legs, as it were, especially since he's still grappling with his newly-fresh memories of his emotions. While he does want to do good, he isn't the epic hero type, and would rather work quietly behind the scenes.
